About us

PortfolioMetrix was founded in 2010 with the intention of providing financial advisers with a real alternative to their central investment proposition. Our team consists of handpicked, highly qualified, internationally recognised staff to best support the entire advice journey. The PortfolioMetrix proposition is multi-layered: The PortfolioMetrix proposition is centred on the provision of high quality, independent investment management. By intelligently combining the latest academic research, tried and tested portfolio construction methods and proprietary techniques, we deliver robust portfolios with a particular focus on risk control. Portfolios are run on a discretionary basis with each portfolio configured to the client's needs and preferences. The middle layer of the proposition involves empowering the adviser with high-quality analysis tools that enable a better understanding of the client, allowing advisers to configure more appropriate portfolios. Innovation through technology is key to achieving this, resulting in a purpose-built software package, Wealth Explorer. The outer layer involves leveraging Wealth Explorer to increase efficiency and productivity in the adviser’s business. Document automation, advanced platform integration and marketing-leading performance reporting allow advisers to offer a professional proposition to their clients but, crucially, do it quicker and more efficiently.

  • Earlier this week at The Investment Forum in Sun City, PortfolioMetrix’s Brandon Zietsman CFA CAIA delivered a thought-provoking session on: How Managers Fuel Bad Investor Behaviour: The Hidden Costs of Overconfidence and Inconsistent Returns.   Key questions that shaped the discussion: - Do managers create false confidence with overly optimistic predictions? - Should advisers bear the full responsibility of keeping clients composed? - How much damage does the behaviour gap really cause? - Are investment managers unintentionally setting advisers up for failure? - Is there an ethical dilemma between delivering performance and maintaining consistency? - What fuels top advisers, and what doesn't.   It was an important conversation about the psychology of investing and the role of investment managers in supporting advisers and clients.   The Collaborative Exchange FUNDHUB.co.za #IF2025 #InvestmentForum

Last week’s Investment Forum in Cape Town delivered key insights on the forces shaping the future of investment management and the conversations advisers are having with their clients.   Brandon Zietsman CFA CAIA explored the vital role investment managers play in supporting investor confidence, addressing investor behaviour, and maintaining the balance between performance and consistency. Philip Bradford, CFA provided a sharp analysis of today’s bond market—highlighting the risks, opportunities, and what investors need to weigh when assessing their portfolios. Alex Funk , CFA moderated a panel on the US mega cap stocks and whether their rotation into broader cyclical share has run its course.   This week, we’re heading to Sun City for the next leg of the Forum, where we look forward to connecting with delegates and continuing the conversation. 📢 Do you know any brilliant female financial planners? 📢 I would love to see more amazing female advisers at our roundtable series and Cambridge + Norwich are next on the list. Our attendees have been absolutely fantastic so far, but we've been missing out on gender diversity - not through lack of trying, but as we all know, there are less women planners and it appears they get booked up well in advance! To be clear, these events are never a sales pitch from PortfolioMetrix. Instead, they offer a unique opportunity for top-tier advisers to come together and hear our CIO discuss the fascinating topic of "Actively Investing in Passive". Feedback from advisers who have seen Alex Funk , CFA in action has been excellent so come along and judge for yourself. If you know someone who would be interested, please tag them or send me a message! ☺️

  • 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 has never been for the faint of heart, and January’s turmoil in AI stocks was a reminder of just how unpredictable it can be.    𝗗𝗲𝗲𝗽𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗸 upended market expectations with the launch of R1—an AI model rivalling OpenAI’s cutting-edge systems at a fraction of the cost. The knock-on effects were immediate: Nvidia saw a record-breaking drop in value of $589 billion in one day, forcing investors to reassess assumptions about the future economics of AI.   As history has shown—from the dot-com boom to biotech and beyond—hype-driven investing can be risky. While thematic funds have surged in popularity, the chances of picking the right theme 𝚊̲𝚗̲𝚍̲ the right fund 𝚊̲𝚗̲𝚍̲ at the right time are very low. Research suggests investors almost always get this wrong.   At PortfolioMetrix, we take a different approach—building resilient, diversified portfolios that withstand market cycles, rather than chasing the latest fad.   🔍 Read our Investment Analyst Riccardo Peretti, CFA’s full analysis here 👇
