We are very excited to introduce Alex Funk , CFA as the new Head of Investments, UK at PortfolioMetrix.   Alex was previously Chief Investment Officer at Schroders Investment Solutions. He will join on 1st August and takes over from Nic Spicer, who is stepping back from his role to embark on a master's degree in Sustainable Energy at Imperial College London.   Nic has been instrumental in building the world-class investment team and processes at PMX and we are very grateful to him for his contribution to the global PMX business over the past 12 years. Team PortfolioMetrix in action at The Collaborative Exchange Investment Forum 2024. Brandon Zietsman CFA CAIA, CEO and CIO, took a deep dive into the role that disruption, competition and chance events have played in the evolution of the SA investments industry over the last 30 years. He unpacked how DFMs were able to disrupt the incumbent asset management industry, but questioned whether the DFM industry itself was not ripe for disruption, and explored adaptations required from both DFMs and asset managers to survive in a more fiercely contested space. Unpacking “How to *** up an investment portfolio”, Philip Bradford, CFA, SA Head of Investments, presented a case study of a top performing US asset management business that imploded, despite their good performance, due to performance volatility. Whilst a manager that consistently achieves second quartile performance is never in lights, over time they are the tortoise that beats the hare. On the fixed income panel Philip argued the benefits of positioning portfolios to fix interest rates at current high interest, which should benefit investors handsomely over the next few years as interest rates are expected to come down.
